Queensland’s chocolate lovers have been asking for it, and Haigh’s has finally answered the call. The South Australian chocolate institution has opened its first Brisbane store at Westfield Mt Gravatt, fully stocked with its much-loved range of handcrafted treats.
For many Queenslanders travelling interstate, a stop at Haigh’s Chocolates is a must. The Adelaide-born chocolatier is regarded as one of the finest confection makers in Australia, with a generation-spanning history dating back to its inception in 1915 by Alfred E Haigh.
Ask anyone with a seriously sharp sweet tooth and they’ll likely chew your ear off raving about Haigh’s heralded range – including its most popular Chocolate Speckles, Chocolate Frogs, Scorched Almonds, Chocolate Pastilles and Assorted Truffles, all made from premium cocoa beans.
Now, as much as a Haigh’s trip is a cherished travel ritual for Brisbane-based chocolate lovers, there’s been no shortage of demand from locals pining for the award-winning brand to expand to Queensland.
Last week, their prayers were finally answered – Haigh’s Chocolates made its official Brisbane debut with the launch of its first store at Westfield Mt Gravatt Shopping Centre.
Part of a substantial retail expansion that will see three new stores open across Brisbane before the end of the year, the launch marks the latest step in the Adelaide based company’s growth, which the family-owned operation began with the construction of an 18,000-sqm state-of-the-art production, warehouse and online-fulfilment facility in South Australia last year.
With Queensland customers already accounting for 18 percent of Haigh’s online sales, the move is a no-brainer. According to Haigh’s Chocolates Chief Executive Peter Millard, Brisbane has been a target site for growth for a while now.
“That figure, combined with consistent requests from Queenslanders to open a bricks-and-mortar store, told us that the market was ready and waiting,” Peter tells us. “The opening of our new production and fulfilment facility in South Australia in 2025 gave us the confidence and capacity to commit to this expansion.”

Located on level two, near MECCA and Target, the chocolatier was inundated with confection cravers across its opening weekend.
Subscribe for updatesFor the rare few who haven’t sampled anything from the Haigh’s Chocolates range, here’s what you need to know. Haigh’s Chocolates produces over 1100 tonnes of liquid chocolate per year to create more than 250 different lines of chocolate using sustainably sourced cocoa beans. Currently, 80 percent of Haigh’s cocoa is Rainforest Alliance certified, with the remaining 20 percent sourced from long-standing partners working towards that same certification.
Haigh’s bean-to-bar ethos is grounded in tradition, with their team of artisan chocolatiers employing handcrafted techniques and small-batch production methods to ensure premium quality.
“Scale never changes our standards,” Peter assures us. “The new facility means we can produce and deliver at a scale that simply wasn’t achievable before.”
So, what’s on offer at Haigh’s Chocolates?
“Brisbane customers can experience everything Haigh’s is renowned for, with our full range of handcrafted chocolates on offer, including the current Father’s Day range and gifting options,” says Peter. “We will also be listening closely to Queensland customers’ requests as we develop new flavours and ranges.”
Soon, Haigh’s Chocolates will open new chocolate shops in Chermside and Carindale, nudging the brand’s retail footprint to 26 stores nationwide. Each location will offer the same kind of magic that made Haigh’s a detour-worthy destination – from the extensive range of artisan chocolates and the delicious aroma to the warm service.
Haigh’s Chocolates is now open seven days a week at Westfield Mt Gravatt Shopping Centre. Head to The Directory for operating hours and other details.
