Brew on the move: Oh My Brew is now slinging its cult-favourite drinks in Newstead
If you’ve seen an influx of content featuring salted maple iced lattes and blueberry matcha topped with cloud-like cold foam on your feeds lately, it might have something to do with Newstead’s newest resident. Oh My Brew has made its debut on Waterloo Street, bringing its menu of striking specialty beverages over the river from South Brisbane. Here’s what’s on the menu …
In today’s hospitality landscape, building a loyal customer base is no easy feat. What’s trickier is getting that following to come with you if you move locations.
This is a conundrum Eddie Solomon-Clark has faced twice now. The operator behind beloved coffee bar Oh My Brew has picked up stumps on two separate occasions since opening in Fortitude Valley in late 2024. A year ago Eddie shifted operations to a shopfront on Merivale Street, where Oh My Brew’s cold-foam-crowned beverages quickly became a hit with South Brisbane sippers.
When factors outside of Eddie’s control necessitated another move, the operator looked back across the river, eventually coming across a cosy out-of-the-way spot in the back streets of Newstead.
“We were actually looking at Queen Street and then this popped up,” Eddie reveals. “So we had to take a little bit of a gamble, but I feel like Newstead’s more our crowd.”
Eddie’s gamble has paid off. Not only has Oh My Brew’s fanbase followed the cafe, but a swathe of new customers have flocked to sample the joint’s coffee, matcha and specialty beverages – a response that Eddie did not foresee.

“The first week and a half was just so busy – I did not expect it,” says Eddie. “There’s like no words for it. It’s been insane.”
Oh My Brew’s new digs (most recently home to Ombra Italian) are located a short distance from Waterfront Park and the Riverwalk, meaning they’re perfectly situated to cater to a takeaway crowd. That said, there is a small courtyard seating area boasting a scattering of orange tables and chairs for those eager to put their feet up.
Be it the grab-and-go gang or the leisurely lingerers, there hasn’t been a time when Oh My Brew has been empty. When asked what he believes is the secret to Oh My Brew’s popularity, Eddie gives credit to his team, first and foremost.
“We’re people people,” he says. “Even when it’s busy, we do try our best to make it a bit more personal, and then it’s a bit more fun for customers and us.”

And then there’s the drinks. Oh My Brew is now pouring coffee from Single O, which features in its espresso-based beverages and specialty items like the iced Cookiebutter latte, salted-maple latte, banana bread iced latte and Cinnabun iced latte.
Oh My Brew is also serving matcha and hojicha lattes, mixed with the likes of blueberry, strawberry, brown sugar, vanilla sea salt, ube and white chocolate.
“I believe we have some of the best matcha in Brisbane,” says Eddie, who tells us the matcha will always be sourced from Japan and hand-whisked, regardless of how long the queues get.
While Oh My Brew’s menu is more concise than at its South Brisbane iteration, Eddie says crowd-favourite items not currently available will likely make an appearance as a rotating special, with raspberry cheesecake and cereal-inspired beverages expected to debut soon.
On the food front, Oh My Brew is currently serving pastries from Sweet & Green, including cinnamon scrolls, pistachio and tiramisu croissants, and doughnuts. Soon, the crew will bring back its selection of toasties, sourced from Stack’d Supply. Eddie says the menu could expand further, depending on the wants of the community.
While Eddie’s head is still spinning from the whirlwind relocation process, he’s incredibly grateful for every person – be they a die-hard regular or curious newcomer – for popping in across Oh My Brew’s first few weeks of Newstead trade.
“My thing was to keep it small – and it’ll always stay small, making good drinks and doing it well,” says Eddie. “[The response] is like nothing I ever planned for, so literally from the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you.”
