King St is switching on the fairy lights and rolling out the stalls for the return of its ever-popular Mother’s Day Market – and it’s all about treating mum (and yourself while you’re at it). On Friday May 8, the Bowen Hills precinct will transform into a lively twilight destination, inviting Brisbane locals to an evening of shopping and snacking, with Mother’s Day gifting firmly in focus.
In collaboration with The Market Folk, the one-night-only market will take over the street with a curated line-up of local artists, makers and creatives. Expect hand-painted ceramics, delicate jewellery, original artworks, homewares and beautifully scented candles, with plenty of meaningful Mother’s Day gifts in the mix.
From 4:00–9:00 pm, live music will carry through the precinct as stalls spill out along the street, creating a relaxed, browse-at-your-own-pace feel. Live portraits and hands-on creative experiences will be dotted throughout, while giveaways and treats for lucky shoppers will pop up across the evening, adding a few extra surprises as you wander.
If you like to snack while you shop, you’re in luck. Enjoy street-style eats on the go as you browse, or settle in at one of King St’s favourite dining spots – from pizza at Il Verde and burgers at Super Combo to Vietnamese noodles at Xin Chao and Japanese eats at Mista Boo.
Bring mum along to the market and let her choose something she loves, or get ahead of your Mother’s Day gifting and make a night of it with friends. Either way, there’s no need to rush this one. Do a lap and double back to discover the perfect gift – you’ll no doubt stay a little longer than planned.
The Mother’s Day Market is being held on Friday May 8 at King St from 4:00–9:00 pm. For more information, head to the King St website.
