One of the world’s most recognisable retailers will soon land at Brisbane Airport, with the city’s first Costco warehouse set to touch down as part of the precinct’s billion-dollar transformation. Taking shape directly opposite the International Terminal, the development will mark the precinct’s transformation into a broad mixed-use destination. Here’s what we know …
As part of its $5 billion Future BNE transformation, Brisbane Airport is developing a 51-hectare parcel of land three times the size of South Bank Parkland opposite the International Terminal, with plans to develop the area into a mixed-use precinct by 2029. The global membership-based warehouse club Costco is the first confirmed retailer for the development, locking in a popular drawcard for the destination-in-the-making.
Slated for a late-2029 opening date, the new Costco warehouse will be the first in Brisbane and the fourth in Queensland, meaning city slickers need no longer hightail it Ipswich, North Lakes or the Gold Coast to get their fix of exclusive deals. Located 12-km from Brisbane City and directly connected to South East Queensland’s road network, perimeter drainage works have already begun on the mammoth site, kicking off a two-year construction project.

The 15,600-m2 warehouse and adjoining fuel station will take up less than a fifth of the total precinct space, with more retailers and offerings to be announced in the coming months. With an 870-capacity cark park and a fuel station with 34 bowsers, the Costco warehouse development will employ 250 full-time staff once construction is completed.
“Costco’s commitment marks the beginning of a new chapter for Brisbane Airport and is the first of many announcements to come as we bring to life a new mixed-use precinct for the city,” says Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff.
“Costco is just the beginning. Even a retailer of this scale will occupy only 12 percent of this huge development site, leaving significant opportunities for other businesses to establish themselves alongside one of the world’s most recognised retail brands.”
With 15 other warehouses across the country, Costco offers its members exclusive access to brand-name electronics, apparel and groceries at lower prices than conventional wholesale or retail stores offer.
Stay tuned for more updates over the coming months.
