Wondrous wildlife, bright colours and a splash of after-hours fun are on the cards when Science Night – Backyard Birds with Dr Christina Zdenek flies into Queensland Museum’s SparkLab on Friday November 6.
Marking the final Science Night for 2026, this adults-only evening invites curious minds to explore the captivating world of Australian woodland birds.
Join ecologist Dr Christina Zdenek from 6:00–9:00 pm for an evening of discovery and insight into why the small and colourful woodland birds are disappearing from urban environments. With a large percentage of these species in decline due to habitat clearing, fragmentation and competition, the night offers education and a further look at how to bring them back to suburbs and cities.
The event will see Dr Christina exploring SparkLab’s impressive Science on a Sphere – a glowing 1.8-metre globe suspended from the ceiling that brings native wildlife to life.
Other highlights of the night include access to STEM Space with 40 interactive exhibits, thrilling science experiments and live music by DJ Jeremy Neale. Drinks and light snacks will also be available at the pop-up bar to get ideas and bubbles flowing.
Following in the footsteps of previous Science Night presenters including evolutionary biologist Dr Ian Brennan, marine scientist Dr Emily Lester and astrophysicist and science communicator Dr Sara Webb, Dr Christina offers a rare opportunity to explore a world beyond your own.
From bird-friendly gardens to backyard bird baths, learn how we can support our native wildlife and reconnect urban communities with the sweet sound of birdsong.
Tickets are currently available via Queensland Museum Kurilpa website, with adult tickets priced at $48 and concession at $40.
