Located just 75 minutes from Brisbane by catamaran, Tangalooma Island Resort remains a quintessential getaway, offering a range of tours and activities across Moreton Island, including whale watching, dolphin feeding, desert safaris and snorkelling adventures. However, for those seeking less thrill and more chill, the resort has just announced The Tangalooma Dunes Cabana Club – a year-round offering perfect for guests looking for a little extra indulgence.

Set to transform the Moreton Island destination, the cabana club serves as a unique addition to the Tangalooma experience. Offering a front-row seat to the golden sands of Tangalooma Beach, the twenty private cabanas can host six to eight guests and have been architecturally designed and equipped with everything needed for a relaxing yet elevated day at the beach.

As South East Queensland gears up for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games, Tangalooma Island Resort director David James says “investments like this are exactly what’s needed to uplift the region’s tourism product and ensure we can offer world-class experiences to visitors from across the globe.”

When it comes to the concept, head of sales and marketing at Tangalooma Island Resort Bernie O’Keefe expressed that the company had seen “positive responses to the pop-up beach clubs around Australia, but knew that it could be done better.”

Stepping away from the velvet-rope exclusivity and party atmosphere often exemplified at European beach clubs, the team sought an elegant yet down-to-earth approach. Adapting to the Queensland climate and with the Australian traveller in mind, the cabanas have been designed with features including adjustable shutters, cooling fans and built-in fridges to keep beverages and share platters fresh throughout the day.

Perfect for couples, families or groups, the cabana acts as a secure base to unwind in between island adventures or a spot for all-day relaxing – whichever your preferred set-up may be.

With a strong focus on driving interstate and international visitors to the region, the resort has partnered with Carnival Cruise Line Australia, allowing cruisers to book the cabanas in addition to their journey.

This inclusion will not only boost tourism towards Moreton Island but influence visitor numbers for Brisbane as well, “stimulating additional visitor nights in Brisbane, whether that means guests stay an extra night in a city hotel for their Tangalooma visit or booking to stay directly at our resort,” Bernie says.

However, with a boost in tourism comes the important conversation around sustainability. Bernie says the resort has “spent decades balancing tourism with environmental care and assure this project is no exception.” In order to bring that ethos to the Cabana Club, they are set up on the manicured lawns behind the dunes so as to not overtake the beach.

“[We seek] to maintain the natural magic of our beautiful beaches, while still offering a world-class space for guests to enjoy them.”

The Tangalooma Dunes Cabana Club will be available to book for visiting Carnival Cruise Line ship guests from Saturday August 1, with special events, conferences and individual bookings from spring 2026. Stay informed on the development here
