New name, new identity, same commitment to luxury and lifestyle: IHG Hotels & Resorts has lifted the cloche on The Alva Hotel Brisbane, formerly Hotel X. Designed as an accommodation spot that reflects the uptempo energy and creative character of Fortitude Valley and its surrounds, The Alva is immersing guests in a deep sense of place through bespoke experiences, quality amenities and thoughtful design. Take a look inside …

When Hotel X first launched, it immediately became one of the best-situated hotels in Brisbane. Perched in the sweet spot between Fortitude Valley’s nightlife district, James Street’s glitzy epicentre and the waterfront hub of Howard Smith Wharves, guests are spoiled for choice when it comes to inner-city exploration.

Last month, the hotel was reborn, with IHG Hotels & Resorts giving the concept new life as The Alva Hotel Brisbane. As part of the company’s Vignette Collection, The Alva now revels in its own identity, creating a new guest experience that foregrounds music, design, individuality and belonging.

Meaning ‘light’, The Alva draws inspiration from the energy and optimism of Brisbane in its current state – a hotbed of creativity and energy, beautifully encapsulated in Fortitude Valley’s cultural and culinary offering. Much like before, The Alva boasts light-filled rooms that are part tranquil urban retreat and part vivid launchpad, with new original artworks that capture the precinct’s character through an abstract and contemporary lens.

Each room features premium Grown Alchemist amenities and The Alva’s own personalised Sleep Edit, featuring a pillow menu and sleep sprays to make unwinding a breeze. Certain rooms are also dog-friendly, meaning your furry friend isn’t exempt from The Alva experience.

Two of The Alva’s signature suites also feature record players and a handpicked selection of vinyl from Brisbane’s musical talent, with the Sounds of Alva program celebrating the city through a soundtrack of homegrown hits.

The lobby has been given a facelift, with a new ‘Alva at Home’ lobby shop and spacious meeting area creating a welcoming entry point for guests. Bespoke city guides offer Brisbane newcomers a curated edit of must-visit cafes, bars, restaurants and galleries, with in-room digital recommendations for gigs taking place during your stay.

While hotels are a great jumping-off point for exploration, The Alva is also great for those looking for convenience and luxury. The 15-metre rooftop pool is an urban oasis located above the buzzing streets, with Iris Rooftop Bar & Restaurant a sensational spot for sunset sips. Bisou Bisou on the ground floor is a phenomenal go-to for French bistro cuisine, be it for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

“The Alva is much more than a new name. It’s a new hotel experience inspired by the creativity, energy and character of Fortitude Valley,” says The Alva Hotel general manager Daniel Gerritse.

“We’ve created a place where guests can experience Brisbane through thoughtful design, personalised service and experiences that celebrate the neighbourhood’s music, art, dining and culture. We’re equally committed to being part of the local community by championing the people and places that make this precinct so distinctive.”
