Gold Coasters, it’s time to shake off the winter hibernation and welcome the warmth. And what better excuse to crawl out of your cosy cocoon than a free festival serving up beats, boozy ice-blocks and a dose of footy fever? The First Wave of Summer Festival is set to crash into Broadwater Parklands on Sunday October 5, and it’s shaping up to be one seriously epic day out.
Picture this – you, your mates, a picnic rug and a soundtrack of surf-punk chaos, big beats and footy finals. Sound good? Throw in a round of boozy ice-blocks and suddenly the First Wave of Summer Festival isn’t just another Sunday session – it’s the recipe for the ultimate summer warm-up.
The lineup is stacked with talent. You can catch the raucous surf-punk antics of Dune Rats and UK electronic powerhouse, Example (touching down for a halftime set), alongside local legend Tenzin, punk-rockers The Bennies, plus GREG, the new project from Toby Cregan of Skegss fame. Rising star Kessin rounds things out, promising an afternoon drenched in good vibes and coastal party energy.
But it’s not just about the music. As the sun dips, the festival will switch gears into full-throttle celebration with a live screening of the NRL Grand Final. Fans stretched out across the parklands, beers in hand, cheering every tackle and try under the stars – it’s the kind of electric atmosphere you simply cannot replicate at home, and why would you want to when First Wave of Summer has free entry?
Keeping everyone refreshed will be the legends from Black Hops, Boozicles, which are basically like ice-blocks for grown ups, and South Ave. Entry won’t cost you a cent, but don’t get complacent as spaces are limited and you’ll need to register via the Boozicles website to secure your spot.
