Mermaid Beach is poised for a major transformation, with plans for The Alfred – a mixed-use development set to reshape the local streetscape and establish a vibrant new neighbourhood hub – currently under consideration. Spearheaded by developer Daniel Veitch of Dankav, the team behind Nobby Beach’s popular The Oxley 1823 precinct, the project would revitalise the existing retail hub at 2375 Gold Coast Highway.
A fresh new chapter could soon be unfolding in Mermaid Beach, with plans underway to transform the current Mermaid Beach Village into a walkable, greenery-filled mixed-use hub. Anchoring the proposed development is The Alfred – a seven-storey, design-forward building that blends beachside living with urban convenience.
Designed by BDA Architecture and J.AR Office, the project includes 80 one- and two-bedroom apartments set above a lively ground-floor precinct of cafes, restaurants and boutique retail, all connected by landscaped laneways and shaded plazas. It’s the kind of space made for morning coffees, weekend brunches and late-afternoon strolls.
The 4000-sqm site, bordered by Gold Coast Highway, Alfred Street and Tamborine Street, is currently home to Mermaid Beach Village carpark and retail tenancies, but if approved, it could become a more pedestrian-friendly destination, just steps from the future Mermaid Beach South light rail station.
Apartments have been designed with the effortless Gold Coast lifestyle in mind and incorporate natural light, cross-breezes, and generous balconies. Elevated garden terraces, a pool and shared spaces for residents offer quiet corners to unwind above the buzz of the street-level precinct below.
With its prime location and integrated approach to lifestyle, living and transport connectivity, The Alfred – if approved – is set to become a flagship mixed-use development for the Gold Coast.
