Dankav, the Gold Coast developer behind Nobby Beach’s The Oxley, has unveiled Lennons, a new hospitality and lifestyle destination taking shape in Mermaid Beach.
Gold Coast developer Dankav certainly knows how to create a destination. Having brought The Oxley to life in Nobby Beach, the team is now turning its attention to Mermaid Beach, where another ambitious project is taking shape. This time, the vision extends beyond restaurants and retail to include boutique accommodation, resort-style pools, wellness facilities and a network of landscaped laneways.
Introducing Lennons, a new coastal playground inspired by the Gold Coast’s golden era of beach holidays. Occupying the lower levels of The Alfred development, which is currently under construction in Mermaid Beach, Lennons will deliver a 104-room boutique hotel, restaurants, cafes, bars, retail and wellness offerings. The Alfred Residences will sit above, comprising 62 private apartments. Together, they’ll create a mixed-use destination designed to be enjoyed by residents, locals and visitors.
Occupying a 4095-sqm site with frontages to the Gold Coast Highway, Alfred Street and Tamborine Street, the precinct will feature approximately 3800 sqm of curated retail and hospitality space. At ground level, a series of landscaped laneways will connect the various venues through open-air gathering spaces, creating a neighbourhood hub where you can grab a morning coffee, settle in for a long lunch or catch up with friends over a few drinks.
For those looking to make a weekend of it, Lennons will offer 104 boutique rooms and suites, complete with resort-style amenities designed to make switching off feel effortless. Think afternoons spent by the pool, poolside dining, wellness facilities and lush subtropical gardens. The idea is to create somewhere that feels just as appealing for a spontaneous afternoon visit as it does for a weekend escape.
While the offering is decidedly contemporary, the inspiration behind Lennons comes from a much simpler time. Taking its name from the original Lennons Hotel, the new precinct draws on the nostalgia of the Gold Coast’s 1960s hotel and motel era, when holidays were all about sun-soaked days, afternoons around the pool and the kind of carefree coastal living that made the city famous.
That nostalgic influence will carry through to the design, which takes cues from both the Gold Coast’s holiday history and the relaxed glamour of Los Angeles. BDA Architecture is leading the residential design, J.AR Office is shaping the podium and laneways, and Urbis is responsible for the landscaping. Together, the teams are creating a series of connected spaces featuring warm materials, lush greenery and an architectural approach that celebrates the character of the surrounding neighbourhood.
Above the hospitality precinct, The Alfred Residences will offer 62 private one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, complete with exclusive residential amenities. The combination of private residences and a lively dining, retail and accommodation destination below is central to Dankav’s vision for the site.
While the individual restaurants, bars and retail operators are yet to be revealed, the prospect of new places to eat, drink, stay and unwind is something to get excited about.
Construction is already underway, with Lennons expected to welcome its first visitors in early 2028. Until then, we’ll be keeping a close eye on what’s to come.
