If it’s been a minute since you last pulled up a seat at Yamagen, consider this your cue. The cutting-edge Japanese-inspired izakaya, tucked inside QT Gold Coast, has just unveiled a fresh line-up of flavour-packed dishes – and with the buzzing fine-diner now open six nights a week, there’s never been a better time to book in.

A long-time favourite on the Gold Coast’s dining scene, Yamagen is known for its refined yet playful take on Japanese cuisine – where technique meets creativity across a buzzing robata grill, sleek sushi counter and moody, atmospheric dining room. Executive chef Adam Lane (ex-Tetsuya’s, Sake and Nobu) continues to evolve Yamagen’s offering with a confident mix of technique, creativity and produce-first flair – and the latest dishes are a showcase of just that.

The all-new red emperor sashimi is sliced fine and dressed with white soy, chive and a burst of yuzu, which has been preserved in-house for a year. The dry-aged duck is served perfectly blush with beetroot puree, witlof and a hint of sansho, while the shio koji chicken thigh is flame-licked on the robata and finished with asparagus, goma ponzu and sunflower seeds. There’s also Hokkaido scallop sashimi with wakame, karkalla, pink pepper and a ginger-lime dressing, as well as golden whitebait tempura with preserved-yuzu mayo that’s crunchy, indulgent and perfect for sharing.

The new line-up of dishes joins Yamagen’s signature favourites – including the thinly sliced snapper sashimi, eye-catching sushi tacos and melt-in-your-mouth crispy pork belly – which have become a go-to for returning diners. Behind the bar, the skilled team will guide you through what is regarded as one of Australia’s largest and most impressive Japanese whisky collections, with sought-after sips like Yamazaki 25 and Hibiki 30 on pour for those looking to savour something special.

Yamagen also continues to offer its popular Friday lunches, with the choice of either a la carte or a $60 omakase set menu – ideal for a team lunch or a sake-soaked Friday feast with friends.

Whether you’re a Yamagen regular or finally ticking it off your list, the latest additions offer plenty to tempt you back to the table. Visit the website to drool over the menu and make a booking.
