House of Hälsa, the Mermaid Beach wellness cafe known for its viral smoothies, has officially launched a new all-day food menu — months after overwhelming demand for its drinks forced the kitchen to temporarily shelve food altogether. Following an expansion into the neighbouring tenancy, the Scandi-inspired cafe is now pairing its sought-after wellness drinks with Swedish-inspired breakfasts, loaded bagels and fresh produce-driven plates.
House of Hälsa opened in January and, within weeks, had become one of the Gold Coast’s most talked-about new arrivals. Some stopped by for the smoothies loaded with sea moss, collagen and functional ingredients. Others came for the interiors – a terracotta-toned space anchored by a maroon sunken lounge that quickly became one of the most photographed couches in the city. Mostly, though, people came because the place felt genuinely unlike anywhere else on the coast.
The response was so immediate that co-owners Coco Loberg and Gareth Fletcher were forced to hit pause on food altogether. “We just didn’t realise what would happen,” Gareth tells us. “Because the smoothies were so popular, we couldn’t do food in the kitchen. We had no space.” The original kitchen was eventually overtaken by blenders and smoothie prep as queues formed daily for the venue’s colourful drinks, made fresh to order rather than pre-batched. “A lot of places pre-batch them all in a cup,” Gareth says. “It just doesn’t taste as good when you do that.”
Now, after expanding into the neighbouring tenancy and building out a larger kitchen, food has officially returned. Coco – known to many as the artist behind The Raspberry Room tattoo studio across the road – drew heavily from her half-Swedish upbringing, travel memories and the kinds of food she naturally gravitates towards herself.
There’s the Stockholm Plate – an unexpectedly addictive assortment of parmesan, boiled egg, butter, jam and rye toast inspired by a breakfast Coco grew up eating. Loaded bagels arrive filled with combinations like scallion cream cheese, smoked sea salt and basil, or chicken salad with crispy chilli oil and pickled ginger. A cubed melon salad layered with fetta, macadamia and fresh herbs has quietly become a menu standout, alongside a burrata dish paired with grapefruit, avocado and toasted macadamia.
The smoothie menu remains firmly at the centre of things, built around functional ingredients like sea moss, collagen, protein and adaptogens rather than sugary shortcuts. Alongside fully customisable options, signatures like Cody Simpson Neptune, Millionaire Shortbread and Strawberries & Cream sit on the menu – the kind of drinks that feel equally indulgent and nourishing, depending on your mood.
The laneway beside the cafe is being expanded into a communal spill-out space, and plans are underway for a small takeaway window inspired by Florence’s historic wine windows – affogatos and matcha soft-serves passed through by hand to waiting customers. It’s a detail that feels entirely in keeping with the place – a little romantic, a little unexpected, and not something you’d find anywhere else on the coast. The new food menu launches this weekend.
