CEO stepdown and takeover at AVID Property Group

AVID Property Group CEO Cameron Holt has announced his retirement after nearly 15 years, with Anthony Demiris to step into the role, effective immediately.

Having led the developer’s Queensland and national land lease businesses, Demiris brings more than 20 years’ experience in the property and finance industries to the role, including 14 years on the AVID leadership team.

Demiris thanked Holt for his leadership, which has seen AVID achieve significant growth.

“He has led the business since it spun out of Investa Property Group, as well as three large-scale business acquisitions – Villa World, Living Gems and AVJennings – which have positioned the business strongly and underpinned its significant growth in recent years,” Demiris said.

Holt said it was an appropriate time to transition to the next generation of leadership, with the organisation and key projects having now settled after a period of significant growth.

He will exit in July 2026 but will remain on the AVID Property Group Board as well as some of its subsidiary boards.

New CFO appointed at Super Retail Group

Super Retail Group announced the appointment of leading Australian retail executive Sarah Hunter to chief financial officer, to start on June 1.

Hunter was most recently the managing director of Officeworks and a member of Wesfarmers leadership team. She brings more than 15 years of leadership experience in the retail sector.

The company also announced the appointment of strategic brand and retail operator Jenny Child as managing director of Rebel, and confirmed the appointment of Ben McConnell to managing director of Supercheap Auto.

The two new appointments follow the retirements of long-serving chief financial officer David Burns and Rebel managing director Gary Williams.

Paul Bradshaw, Super Retail Group managing director and chief executive officer, welcomed Hunter for her customer-focused approach to retail management.

“Sarah is a strong financial and transformation leader with demonstrated operational depth and she will be a significant asset to our business as we prepare to embark on our new five-year strategy,” Bradshaw said.

Bank of Queensland appoints non-executive director

Bank of Queensland (BOQ) has appointed Chris Eigeland as a non-executive director, to start from May 18.

BOQ chair Andrew Fraser said Eigeland  “brings first-hand experience in overseeing complex digital ecosystems to the BOQ Board”.

Eigeland brings experience from his role as co-founder and CEO of Queensland-based global workforce learning platform Go1 Pty Ltd, which simplifies corporate learning, compliance and professional development through curated and increasingly AI-enabled personalised learning experiences.

Eigeland has worked extensively in customer engagement through international, government-adjacent organisations and not-for-profit boards.

He also brings practical experience in governance, risk and regulatory matters. His appointment will be voted upon by shareholders at the Annual General Meeting on December 1 2026.

Top legal appointment at Rio Tinto

Rio Tinto announced the appointment of Trudi Charles to the role of chief legal officer of governance and corporate affairs.

Charles takes the reins from Isabella Deschamps and will join Rio Tinto and step into the role on August 1 after finishing her current role of deputy general counsel and senior vice president of legal, supply, trading and shipping at BP.

Charles has spent more than 20 years at BP in various senior legal roles across its downstream and supply, trading and shipping businesses, with another eight years of experience with Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer in London and Hong Kong.

“Trudi brings deep legal experience and strong commercial insight,” Rio Tinto CEOSimon Trott said.

“I look forward to having her join the executive team and lead our legal, governance and corporate affairs teams.”

AMA Queensland appoints new leadership team

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) of Queensland welcomed its new leadership team, with the election of associate professor Dr Erica Gannon as president and Dr Sarah Coll as vice president.

Gannon is a senior medical officer and staff specialist emergency physician currently practising at Caboolture Hospital and St Andrews War Memorial Hospital.

Gannon said it was an honour to step into the role and give back to her profession.

“Queensland’s health sector is at a crossroads, with nearly 5300 extra public hospital doctors and 700 general practitioners needed by the 2032 Olympic Games,” she said.

“As someone on the frontline in emergency departments, I know how important it is to have a health system that works for everyone.”

Dr Coll is an orthopaedic surgeon practising in Cairns and says it is vital doctors’ voices continue to be heard.

“Doctors across Queensland are facing increasing system pressure, growing regulatory complexity and real uncertainty about the sustainability of both public and private practise,” Dr Coll said.

AMA Queensland CEO Dr Brett Dale said the organisation was fortunate to have Gannon and Dr Cole’s passion and knowledge as AMA Queensland lobbies state and federal governments for change.

“Associate Professor Gannon and Dr Coll are dedicated and experienced professionals with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in our health system,” he said.

He also thanked the outgoing leadership team of Dr Nick Yim and Dr Emilia Dauway for their service over the last two years.
