Feed your kids’ imaginations with QPAC’s school-holiday productions

A pair of stories penned by Australian literary luminaries are being adapted for the QPAC stage, with young audiences encouraged to immerse themselves in imaginative worlds ripe for adventure. If you’re looking to fill up the holiday itinerary, these incredible productions make for a fantastic family outing.

Few Australian authors can claim to have shaped as many young minds as Mem Fox and Andy Griffiths. The writers behind seminal reads like Possum Magic and The Day My Bum Went Psycho are fixtures on bookshelves, but did you know their works also translate to the stage?

These school holidays, families will be able to grab a seat at QPAC for two separate immersive theatre shows – both of which aim to enliven imaginations through high production values and more than a dash of humour.

Taking over the Playhouse Theatre from April 13–18 is Where is the Green Sheep?, a theatre adaptation of the book of the same name, written by Mem Fox and Judy Horacek. Written for the stage and directed by Eva Di Cesare and performed by Monkey Baa Theatre Company, the show will blend puppetry and animation to entice audiences (including kids aged one to six years) to join three farmers on their quest to find an elusive green sheep.

Where is the Green Sheep? will be sharing the Playhouse stage with YOU & ME and The Land of Lost Things, which will be running from April 4–12. This tale is an adaptation of Andy Griffiths’ and Bill Hope’s book, which has been turned into a play by Richard Tulloch.

Audiences will embark on an adventure through The Land of Lost Things to locate some treasured items that have been misplaced – including a guinea pig and a lucky rabbit’s foot. During the journey (undertaken in a bathtub boat), you’ll see flying socks, treasure-hungry pirates, snapping turtles, an anxious bull and much more. YOU & ME and The Land of Lost Things is suitable for primary-school children aged six years and above.
