A proposed riverside lifestyle precinct has been given the go-ahead, with Shayher Group’s high-profile Bulimba Barracks development earning Brisbane City Council approval. Here’s what we know …
A historic Former Fabrication Workshop will soon be repurposed into the beating heart of a brand-new neighbourhood, with Shayher Group’s Bulimba Barracks getting the green light from council to proceed.
The storied site – a war-time industrial hub that once housed the Bulimba Army Base – will be revitalised as part of the 20-ha Bulimba Barracks Master Plan, which will include new homes, parks and playgrounds.
The workshop building, constructed in 1943, will be converted into a lifestyle nexus boasting a boutique supermarket, retail and hospitality venues, as well as a number of multi-use public spaces. An open central area for community events, pop-up shops and outdoor dining spaces is also planned.
“It is very important to Shayher that we complement the existing area, and we have ensured the historical integrity of the workshop building, which will become a community hub for local residents and visitors with a focus on a mix of retail and food and beverage to complement the existing area,” said Shayher Group director John Lin in a statement.
“This development will be a focal point along the Brisbane River, resulting in a beautiful, high-quality area for the Bulimba community to enjoy whilst respecting the historical value of this part of Brisbane and Queensland for generations to come.”
