The Talisman Group – the hospitality crew behind Sasso Italiano and South City Wine – is getting into the cafe game. Early next year the team will launch PALMA, a bright and casual dining destination at South City Square in Woolloongabba. Expect killer brunch, relaxed lunch and a welcoming atmosphere. Here’s what we know …
Over the past few years, Talisman Group has ticked off a lot of boxes. It made a sensational first impression with its retro-tinged Italian-inspired restaurant Sasso, followed quickly by sleekly chic vino spot South City Wine. More recently, the group expanded to Melbourne, giving the city Talisman’s punchy take on Peruvian-Chinese cuisine (otherwise known as chifa) with Casa Chino.
Early next year, the Talisman team will once again turn its attention back to its Woolloongabba home, opening all-day eatery PALMA at the base of the Hillyard House – South City Square’s newest apartment tower. Boasting a laneway-style setting, a light and bright interior aesthetic, and an open-air design, PALMA’s retractable walls will offer diners a 180-degree view over South City Square’s Secret Garden.
In the mornings, we’ve been told guests will be able to break their fast with acai bowls, flaky croissants and brunch bites like mushroom toast, while caffeine from St Remio coffee will put peps in steps. Later in the day, PALMA’s menu will unfurl to include burgers, sandwiches, salads and pasta dishes, with a curated selection of beers and wine fleshing out the venue’s offering.
PALMA is slated to open in February 2026, and will trade daily from 6:30 am to 4:00 pm. Rest assured we’ll have more for you on this one in the new year.
