Gelato Messina and Shadow Baking
Have a sweet tooth and live in or near Ascot? You’re going to flip when you hear that Gelato Messina is not only opening a new gelateria on Racecourse Road, but its also bringing its patisserie-inspired offshoot, Shadow Baking, with it. Both venues will be opening in December at the base of The Windermere on Racecourse Road, joining Italian-inspired eatery Dimmi as anchor tenants of the new high street development project. Founded in 2020 by Messina’s head chefs Tom Mitchell and Florian Fritsch, Shadow Baking is renowned for its clever melding of Australian and French baking sensibilities, serving items like croissants, tarts, breads and unique creations. While details on the exact offering are being kept under wraps for now, we know the fit-out is being handled by Lowry Group. Keep your eyes peeled for more info soon.

Following hot on the heels of its Queensland debut at Westfield Mt Gravatt in August, iconic chocolatier Haigh’s Chocolates is opening two brand-new stores this week. On Wednesday November 4, Haigh’s will cut the ribbon on another location at Westfield Chermside, followed quickly by the unveiling of its Westfield Carindale store on Thursday November 5. To celebrate the new openings, the first 50 customers to make a purchase at Haigh’s Westfield Carindale and Westfield Chermside will receive a free Milk Chocolate Midi Frog. That’s not all – customers who spend $75 or more in-store (between November4–8) will receive a complimentary packet of Milk Chocolate Speckles. “It was truly special to witness the enthusiastic fanfare and welcome from the community at the opening of our first Brisbane store,” says Haigh’s chief executive, Peter Millard. “With Christmas fast approaching, we have no doubt the Westfield Chermside and Carindale stores will be warmly received and can’t wait to share this year’s festive range with customers.”
