From word of a new cafe from the Togninis team to South City Square’s forthcoming all-day eatery, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …
Dopo Eatery
A long-running culinary institution is receiving an exciting refresh, with Tognini’s DeliCafe undergoing a metamorphosis after many years of operation. The Milton mainstay will be officially reborn next week as Dopo Eatery, a cafe concept the Tognini’s team describes as a “welcoming space for everyday pauses”. Dopo, which means ‘after’ in Italian, is designed to be the spot diners venture to slow down – after work, after school or after the morning rush. The space in the midst of a facelift (courtesy of the crew at Lowry Group), with Dopo’s internals enhanced with the addition of natural materials – think stone and timber – adding depth and tactile warmth, while greenery blurs the line between indoors and outdoors.
When it comes to Dopo’s menu, the cafe will offer guests an elevated and refined breakfast and lunch range that balances approachable favourites with some new additions. Stand-out options will include the Dopo chilli scrambled eggs with ‘nduja, chilli paprika oil, fried capers and stracciatella sourdough toast, and tiramisu waffles with coffee cream, espresso syrup and fresh berries. Guests will also be able to enjoy a rotating selection of sourdough sandwiches, salads, and house-made muffins, cakes and slices. Dopo will be keeping customers caffeinated with its own custom Tognini’s coffee blend, which will be available alongside fresh juices, smoothies and milkshakes. There will also be a refined wine list, curated to pair perfectly with the cafe’s lunch and casual-dining options. You won’t have long to wait to experience Dopo’s dining offering – the cafe opens to the public on Wednesday November 5. Keep your eyes peeled for more on Dopo in the coming weeks!

PALMA
After a string of hits with Italian-inspired Sasso Italiano, sleek French-style bar à vin South City Wine and Melbourne’s chifa sensation Casa Chino, Talisman Group is turning its attention back to Woolloongabba with its next venture, PALMA. Opening in February 2026 at the base of Hillyard House in South City Square, this light-filled, laneway-style all-day eatery will serve up morning acai bowls, croissants and St Remio coffee before shifting to burgers, salads, pasta and a curated beer and wine list later in the day – all framed by retractable walls overlooking the precinct’s lush Secret Garden. Wendy’s
If you’ve passed through The City lately, you might have spied a blue-hued business taking shape on the corner of Albert Street and Adelaide Street. That’s the new home of Wendy’s – the world-renowned quick-service restaurant brand that is making its Australian debut with a two-level flagship right here in Brisbane. Officially opening to the public tomorrow, Wednesday October 29, this 130-seat venue (named Haus of Wendy) will boast an open-air ground floor space and a lower level featuring two immersive themed spaces (one of which features a Bow Wall installation by Brisbane artist Rachel Burke). The Wendy’s menu features the brand’s signature made-to-order square hamburgers, spicy chicken sandwiches, the heart-stopping Baconmator and the iconic Frosty dessert.

Catch Fish and Chips
Seafood season has arrived and with it comes a brand-new fish and chipper slinging a Poseidon’s bounty of ocean-caught morsels. The newest concept from the Hunter St. Hospitality crew, Catch Fish and Chips will open next to The Bavarian at Westfield Chermside on Wednesday November 12, bringing with it a menu of fast, fuss-free eats that are jam-packed with coastal flavour. Blending a nostalgia-laced look with contemporary twists, Catch Fish and Chips will be luring in shoppers for a quick lunch or a family dinner with mouthwatering dishes like crispy golden calamari rings, succulent prawn rolls, freshly grilled barramundi, loaded Catch bowls, juicy burgers and even deep-fried Mars bars. Once open, Catch Fish and Chips will trade seven days a week.
