From news of a tropical-inspired rooftop bar in New Farm to a new craft-beer bar for Woolloongabba, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Ruma Rooftop
The final piece of the Little Lane puzzle is set to land later this month, with brand-new bar and eatery Ruma Rooftop taking shape at the top of the flourishing New Farm microprecinct. The latest venture from the 27 Hospitality Group (Sunsets Rooftop and Merci Event Space), Ruma is drawing inspiration from tropical regions, coastal-European villages and island heritage – a relaxed escape where an impromptu drink can easily transform into a lengthy stay. An earthy palette of stone and terracotta forms the aesthetic foundation for the venue, which is then layered with linen, woven textures and greenery.  While details of the menu are still being kept under wraps, the Ruma team has confirmed that the kitchen will be helmed by head chef Felipe Oliveira who, alongside sous chef Sibin Ro, will be injecting heart and energy into the venue’s culinary offering. The beverage program has been designed to evoke the feeling of a getaway in a glass – think tropical-inspired interpretations of classic cocktails infused with citrus and fresh herbs. Aperitif time will also be a big focus, with attention paid to cocktail and food pairings. Ruma Rooftop will be opening imminently – check in on The Weekend Edition for a sneak peek very soon.

The Hideout Fortitude Valley
One of the inner-city’s best coffee crews is expanding its footprint to Fortitude Valley, with The Hideout gearing up to open its third cafe over on St Pauls Terrace. Taking over the site previously home to Steam Espresso, just near King Street, The Hideout will bring its elevated coffee experience to the neighbourhood – expect a dedicated filter bar dispensing top-notch brew, a full food menu and a retail section. The space itself will boast the cafe’s established sleek and clean aesthetic, with a central coffee and service counter ringed by stools, alongside a strip of cushioned booths for dine-in seating. While a renovation period is expected to run through to the Easter holidays, locals can still get a taste of The Hideout’s killer caffeine courtesy of a pop-up coffee and pastry cart that is operating now. Keep your eyes on The Weekend Edition for a look inside The Hideout’s new location once the construction works are complete.

Hop City Bar
Stafford-based brewery Happy Valley Brewing Co. is set to expand its footprint with the launch of Hop City Bar, a new 200-seat venue opening later this year at South City Square in Woolloongabba. Designed as a relaxed neighbourhood craft-beer hub, the two-level bar will feature indoor, outdoor and mezzanine spaces, large TV screens for sport and events, and 16 beer lines – including eight dedicated to Happy Valley brews like its award-winning 50K IPA. The venue will also offer a small cocktail list, an extensive whisky selection and a menu of shareable snacks. Owner Cheyne Meehan says the move allows Happy Valley to channel its increased brewing capacity into its own venue rather than the highly competitive wholesale market, while also filling a gap for a community-focused craft-beer bar in the rapidly growing precinct. Vermouth Month at Bar Miette
The Trader House team is embracing the Spanish culture of leisure with its brand-new month-long celebration, which is dedicated to vermouth. Vermouth Month will see the riverside bar and restaurant pouring an assortment of vermouths from week to week. Vermouth from Tamborine Mountain distillery Loborn will be on deck to start, followed by Chinato Vergano from Cappellano and Cocchi from Piedmont, Fot-Li from Tarragona and Melbourne’s own Saison Vermouth. The menu will also include sangria to share and Milano-Torino – a blend of vermouth and bitters that is served on the rocks or tall. These sips will be joined by a menu of appropriately salty snacks, including potato crisps with jamon Iberico, gildas, anchovy toast, chilled Spring Bay mussels with vermouth, golden raisin, fennel and parsley, and tins of razor clams and sardines. Bar Miette’s Vermouth Month celebrations will run from Monday March 9 to Sunday April 5 – click here for more information.
