From news of a late-night yum cha destination for Queen’s Wharf to a brand-new Chargrill Charlie’s outpost in West End, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …
Pavilion
Queen’s Wharf will welcome a sleek new resident this week when Pavilion officially opens its doors to the public on Saturday October 3. The latest venue from the group behind yum cha spots Longtime and Goodtime, Pavilion will take over the spot previously occupied by Hua Dining at The Star Brisbane’s level four dining precinct. Looking to showcase the depth and variety of Cantonese gastronomy, Pavilion’s extensive menu will encompass handcrafted dim sum delivered via trolley, with highlights including prawn toast with foie gras and sesame, crispy ham syu gok (deep-fried dim sum) stuffed with roast pork belly, har gow, Yuenyeung Golden Chicken served with dual chilli and scallion oils, and traditional Century Egg with poached river greens in a rich golden broth. Open seven days a week, Pavilion will serve yum cha until midnight every Friday and Saturday, with a private karaoke room also available for late-night festivities.

Chargrill Charlie’s
Chicken lovers, here’s some cluckin’ good news. Over the weekend Chargrill Charlie’s opened a brand-new Brisbane location at West Village in West End, giving locals south of the river a convenient spot to get their fix of Charlie’s home-style meals, chicken-salt chips and fresh salads. Chargrill Charlie’s West End is the second Queensland location from the brand, which made its hotly anticipated debut last year in New Farm. Like its sibling site, the West Village shop is equipped with the same emission-free ‘clean’ rotisserie, which lovingly cooks Charlie’s famous chargrilled chicken to succulent perfection. The menu also includes burgers, rolls and bowls, with a rotating selection of side dishes and salads also available. To celebrate its arrival at West Village, Chargrill Charlie’s will be hosting a grand opening party on Sunday October 11, with the team giving away 300 free chicken schnitzel rolls from 2:00 pm.

LUMA Gelato
If you’ve got a serious sweet tooth, this tidbit is for you. Sunshine Coast-born self-serve gelato bar LUMA Gelato is expanding to Brisbane, with the brand opening a brand-new location at the base of LIV Anura in Newstead next month. Famed for its silky smooth gelato (made using premium Italian ingredients and Australian produce), mix-and-match toppings and sauces, LUMA Gelato gives guests the freedom to create their dream combinations. LUMA offers classic flavours like pistachio, hazelnut and fior di latte, as well as an ever-changing range of limited-edition flavours and seasonal creations. Newstead location is substantially larger than LUMA’s Mooloolaba location, with 170-sqm interior housing a bank of pay-by-weight gelato dispensers, eye-catching toppings counter and plenty of seating for those looking to linger and enjoy their gelato in the moment. LUMA’s grand opening is currently slated for Thursday October 15, with the team planning to give away 500 free gelatos per week for four weeks. Keep your eyes on the gelateria’s social media pages for more info.

Los Sundays x Birria Boy’s summer rooftop series
Tequila, tacos and tip-top views will come together this spring and summer for a rooftop residency hosted by Los Sundays Tequila. The spirits brand is teaming up with Birria Boy to take over C’est Bon’s Ooh La La rooftop for three months, serving up excellent eats, drinks and vibes between 4:00–9:00 pm every Friday and Saturday. Launching on Friday October 16 (the same date as Birria Boy’s first birthday), the residency will transform the rooftop into an elevated party oasis, with Los Sundays’ range of tequila (made using 100 percent blue weber agave) taking centre stage at the bar. Guests can sip on spice-filled highballs, tequila-laced espresso martini riffs, refreshing Ranch Water and DIY Tommy’s margaritas made with your choice of agave, modifier and salt rim. The Birria Boy kitchen will sling a rotating menu perfect for rooftop grazing, including Queensland tuna and mango tostada, guacamole and totopos, al pastor pork skewers and barbecue corn with jalapeno crema. Bookings for the The Los Sundays residency will be available soon via C’est Bon’s website.

Jane Scrolls
Buzzy market-born cinnamon scroll purveyor Jane Scrolls is about to evolve. In early October, the team behind the virally popular cream-cheese-topped confection will open its own bricks-and-mortar shopfront in Coorparoo, bringing together production, catering and cafe under one roof. Once open, guests will be able to pop in for a freshly baked scroll, with the entire range on offer, including the classic cinnamon swirl (topped with cream-cheese icing), The Billionaire (boasting a Kinder Bueno and Oreo filling with a Biscoff cream cheese coating), and the Pecan Sticky Date (a spiced date swirl with sticky toffee and roasted pecans). Beyond scrolls, the menu will also expand to include house-baked focaccia sandwiches, specialty coffee from Single O, choccie milk off tap and hand-whisked matcha. Get the full scoop here.
