From news of a new location for one of Brisbane’s best noodle spots to an artisanal gelato joint in Paddington, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …
Terrific Noodles
Love a bit of bang for your bite? Biang biang noodle specialist Terrific Noodles opened the doors to its second location over the weekend, with the crew cutting the ribbon on the new site at Westfield Chermside. Foodies flocked for a taste of Terrific Noodles’ Xi’an-inspired offering, which is headlined by its signature hand-pulled biang biang noodles, served with the likes of braised lamb, beef rib fingers, shredded pork and chilli. The menu also features roujiamo (a flaky Chinese-style flatbread burger stuffed with flavourful fillings) noodle soups, traditional Xi’an street snacks, dumplings and drinks. Located on level two near Event Cinemas, Terrific Noodles is hard to miss – keep your eyes peeled for the venue’s vivid red colour scheme and vibrant mural (created by a local Xi’an artist), which meshes Xi’an history with expressive artistic elements.
Storiabella Gelateria
Summer is set to be a cinch, with an influx of cool gelato joints landing in Brisbane. The newest scoop spot to hit the scene is Storiabella Gelateria, a new premium gelateria now open on Given Terrace in Paddington. Taking an elevated approach to the traditional Italian-inspired gelateria, Storiabella is pairing a chic European-inspired aesthetic (boasting navy, ivory, brass and travertine finishes) with a 24-strong range of artisan gelato handcrafted using locally sourced products. Creativity is core to the offering, which includes flavour options like Sicilian pistachio, vegan salted caramel malt pretzel crunch, salted burnt butter pecan butterscotch, frozen Greek yoghurt, and raspberry coconut lychee crunch, available alongside premium toppings and house-made sauces, cookies, brownies, Basque cheesecakes and more.
Jane Scrolls
A few weeks back, we broke word that Jane Scrolls was evolving, opening its own cinnamon scroll-slinging cafe and production kitchen in Coorparoo this month. Well, now we can confirm that the brand’s headquarters will be officially launching this coming weekend, with plenty of goodies in store for early birds. Across Saturday and Sunday (from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm both days), the Jane Scrolls team will be dishing out trays filled with some of its fan-favourite monthly specials (plus a few new flavours), including classic cinnamon, apple crumble, pizza, creme brulee, tiramisu and a super-secret mystery scroll. These treats will be available alongside focaccia sandwiches and specialty coffee from Single O, plus we hear that customers that come through might get a scroll on the house. Planning a trip to the Gold Coast soon? Here’s some news that might be of interest …
Sylv’s Italian
The husband-and-wife duo behind some of the Gold Coast’s most memorable hospitality venues is set to add to its portfolio. Mitch and Nerissa McCluskey (of Commune and Etsu fame) will soon open Sylv’s Italian in Miami, taking over the former That’s Amore space at Miami Shopping Village. Described as a warm and nostalgic venue with a tasteful touch of 70s-inspired swagger, Sylv’s will see the team wrapping the site in timber, adding globe lights, chocolate-brown stools, a rust-coloured banquette and shelves of vinyl records. In the kitchen, head chef Lauren Kinne (previously of Haven Restaurant, Elska and Adelita Wine Bar) will craft a succinct menu centred around pizza and handmade pasta, alongside a handful of entrees and a steak dish. Sylv’s head pizzaiolo Fabio will be using a traditional static oven, crafting a long-fermented dough recipe designed to hit the sweet spot between soft and crisp, with a little crunch and a properly puffy crust.
