Seven stacked and satisfying sandwiches to seek out on the Gold Coast

May 29, 2025, updated May 29, 2025

There’s something undeniably joyful about a well-made sandwich – the perfect bread, the balance of textures, the way flavours layer and mingle in each bite. The Gold Coast’s sandwich scene is stacked (literally) with crave-worthy creations that go way beyond your standard lunch, and while we’d never play favourites … here are seven that are living rent-free in our sanga-obsessed minds right now. Go forth and seek these bad boys out!

The Reuben at 5B2F Ciabatta, Southport
It’s a real IYKYK situation, so consider this an official tip off – the freshly made Reubens at 5B2F Ciabatta are all time. The house-baked ciabatta, which holds its own without stealing the show, is lovingly layered with thin slices of house-made corned beef, tangy sauerkraut, pickled onion, cheddar cheese and a generous schmear (both sides) of housemade chipotle mayo, adding just enough kick.

Deli Sandwich at Junior’s Deli, Mudgeeraba
While the Junior’s menu is packed with goodness, you can’t look past one of its OG items – the Deli Sandwich. A local favourite for good reason, this sando is built on a soft baguette and piled high with slices of leg ham, mortadella and sopressa, alongside provolone, dill pickles, cos lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo and a hit of house dressing. It’s everything a proper deli sandwich should be.

Mr Mortazza at HOME, Currumbin
Friends, meet Mr Mortazza – HOME’s crowd favourite. Mortadella is the main character here, joined by creamy stracciatella cheese, tomato butter, pistachio pesto, rocket and aioli, all served between golden, toasted focaccia. Honestly, what a combo. You’ll be thinking about that tomato butter for a very long time.

Chicken Parmy Foc at George’s Deli, Kingscliff
George’s house-made focaccia is the stuff of sandwich dreams – golden-edged and just the right amount of chewy. And the Chicken Parmy Foc takes things to another level entirely, featuring crumbed chicken breast, shaved parmesan, torched melty cheese, fresh basil and rich passatta. It’s everything you love about a classic pub parmy, reimagined in sandwich form.

The American at Palomino’s Deli, Tugun
Palomino’s sandwiches are all over Instagram – and yes, they do taste as good as they look. The American is one of only two sandwiches on the menu, and it’s a deli-lover’s dream. Built on a perfectly crunchy roll, it’s stacked with thinly sliced ham and turkey, crisp lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, oregano, provolone and a drizzle of ranch dressing. The sandwiches are made fresh to order, and customisation is encouraged so you can go wild and add more deli meats like bresaola, prosciutto and hot sopressa.

Salad Sandwich at MC’s Sandwich House, Burleigh
Some days we just crave a simple salad sanga. Nothing fancy, just crisp and colourful salad on soft white bread. Surprisingly, they’re pretty hard to find – but rest assured, MC’s Sandwich House has one that hits the spot. Its salad sandwich has all the good stuff – lettuce, tomato, carrot, beetroot, alfalfa, red onion, cheddar and a generous swipe of house vegan mayo, served between two pieces of super-soft white bread. Add ham if you want, but it’s a knock-out as is.

Miso Chicken Sandwich at Tarte Bakery, Burleigh
Known for exceptional pastries, the team at this Burleigh favourite also know how to build a seriously good sandwich. The fresh and comforting Miso Chicken Sandwich features poached free-range chicken, creamy miso mayo, lots of tangy pickled cucumber, watercress and (for ultimate finishing touch) shards of salty, crispy chicken skin – all hugged by thick slices of fresh white sourdough.
