There’s no shortage of new openings landing on the Gold Coast and beyond right now – from quietly clever coffee concepts to neighbourhood wine bars and late-night pizza slingers. While not all of these venues technically opened in March, this is when we dropped in for a look, making it a handy snapshot of what’s new (or new to us) right now. If your saved folder is starting to look a little tired, consider this your refresh. Here are five spots worth working into your weekly rotation.

day off., Southport
Coffee served at minus 86 degrees is the hook, but it’s not the whole story. At day off., the ultra-frozen signature sip lands somewhere between espresso and dessert, with a surprisingly smooth finish thanks to a carefully dialled-in process. While the beverages are reason enough to make the trip, the food here more than keeps pace with thick-cut sourdough ‘slabs’ stacked with fillings like bacon and egg or steak and cheese. Anything with thick-cut bacon has our vote.

Leaf Cafe & Co, Broadbeach
Bright, open and easy to settle into, Leaf Cafe & Co has slipped neatly into Broadbeach’s all-day dining mix. The menu moves from familiar morning staples such as eggs your way, big breakfasts, omelettes and toasties into lighter, produce-led plates. The pistachio French toast has found a cult following of sweet tooths, while the Belgian hot chocolate made with melted chocolate, not powder, is rich in all the right ways.

Bar Bruto, Casuarina
Bar Bruto is the latest from seasoned hospitality figures Mark Wilson, Lee Middendorf and Emily Wilson, a trio whose combined resume spans some of the region’s most influential venues (Spice Den, Taverna and Farm & Co Dining Room, Bombay Cricketers’ Club, Osteria, Baked at Ancora). After years of operating large-format restaurants, this project marks a deliberate shift in both scale and intent. Evenings feel different here – the lights drop, the music picks up and the menu shifts towards Spanish-leaning plates designed to share. A concise drinks list keeps things moving, but there’s no rush – order something small, then something else, and let it build from there. This one is a must if you’re in or around Northern New South Wales.

Rowdy Ranch, Surfers Paradise
Rowdy Ranch doesn’t ease you in – it leans straight into the action. Taking over a prime Orchid Avenue address, the venue brings a fun honky-tonk energy to Surfers, complete with neon signage, vintage Americana touches and a mechanical bull at the centre of the room. The menu matches the mood – flame-grilled steaks, stacked burgers, fried chicken and wings, with the tomahawk a standout for groups. Earlier in the evening it skews approachable and family friendly, but as the night rolls on, things dial up. Music gets louder, the bull gets busier and the whole space shifts into something far more playful. It’s big, brash and built for a good time.

Attaboy Pizza, Byron Bay
Good dough, handled properly, does most of the heavy lifting at Attaboy. The base is given time – rested, stretched and cooked just right – setting the tone for everything that follows. By day, it’s New York-style slices, quick, hot and easy to grab and by night, it opens up to full pies and Detroit-style squares, with a little more room to settle in. Toppings stay grounded, built on quality ingredients with just enough variation to keep things interesting. It’s casual, well considered and exactly the kind of place you find yourself returning to without much thought.

Missed a few from last month? Check out Terronia in Burleigh Heads, Bar Ricci in Main Beach, down south there’s Our Tribe Cafe in Kirra and The Salty Chook in Rainbow Bay, and in Robina, you’ll find Lovi Cafe & Restaurant and Zum Schilling.
