Kirra’s newest breakfast spot Our Tribe Cafe is all about family, flavour and community

There’s something quietly satisfying about walking into a cafe where you’re greeted by name, your usual coffee order is remembered and your favourite rosti eggs benny never disappears from the menu. That sense of comfort and familiarity sits at the heart of Our Tribe Cafe in Kirra, a family-run newcomer that’s already feeling like a long-standing local.

Our Tribe Cafe is a passion project for husband-and-wife duo Chris and Jamie-Leigh Wilkinson, who have built the Kirra cafe around a simple idea – creating a place where people feel genuinely welcome. The name, Our Tribe, reflects both their own close-knit family and their desire to foster a sense of belonging among customers. Inspired by a phrase once used by Chris’s mother to describe their growing household, the concept has grown into something that now extends well beyond their four kids and into the wider community.

That sense of connection is evident the moment you walk in. Designed by House of Helen, the space feels considered and welcoming, blending coastal textures with soft pinks, pale sage green, cane accents and terrazzo finishes. Polaroid-style photos and family touches reinforce the idea that this is a cafe built around people, not just plates.

After nearly a year searching for the right space, the couple secured the former Tupe Aloha site and knew straight away it was the right fit. Just outside Kirra’s busiest strip, the location offers a calmer, neighbourhood atmosphere that perfectly suits their vision.

Behind the scenes, Jamie-Leigh brings structure and organisation to the business, while Chris sets the tone on the floor with the warmth and easy rapport that regulars have come to know and love. Their kids are involved too, helping out behind the coffee machine and even testing smoothie ideas, giving the cafe a genuine family-run feel.

In the kitchen, head chef Callum Bruce leads a menu that balances approachability with intention. Nearly everything is made from scratch, from batters to sauces, and most dishes can be adapted to be gluten free. The focus is on fresh, nourishing food that doesn’t feel restrictive. The standout is the rosti benny, a house-made hash brown topped with poached eggs, your choice of bacon, ham or halloumi, and silky hollandaise. It has quickly become a signature, alongside crowd favourites like the karaage chicken burger, mystic mushrooms and smashed avo, which regulars rate among the best in the area.

Drinks are treated with equal care. Coffee is supplied by Seven Miles Coffee Roasters, with Our Tribe pouring the brand-new Goldilocks blend, a smooth, balanced roast not yet widely available on the Gold Coast. Kombuchas, juices and healthier drink options round out the offering, catering to families and beachgoers alike.

Service is where the Wilkinsons believe they truly stand apart. While good food and coffee are now expected, they see genuine hospitality as their defining feature. Every guest is greeted with gratitude and attention, creating an experience that feels personal rather than transactional.

Our Tribe Cafe caters to everyone from early risers and post-swim regulars to leisurely brunchers and lunch crowds. Looking ahead, the team is already considering evening pop-ups, live music and themed nights, though for now, the focus remains firmly on doing the basics exceptionally well.

For Chris and Jamie-Leigh, Our Tribe isn’t about chasing trends or creating a picture-perfect destination. It’s about consistency, care and community. Six weeks in, that philosophy is already resonating, and this family-run cafe is quietly establishing itself as one of Kirra’s most genuine places to eat, drink and connect.
