From waterfront seafood feasts to pistachio fountains, the past few weeks have delivered a smorgasbord of new spots to eat, sip and celebrate. Whether you’re in the mood for top-notch tacos, a swirl of vegan soft serve or a generous plate of pasta Nonna would approve of, here are five fresh openings that have us loosening our belts and planning our next foodie adventure.
Isla Dining & Bar, Surfers Paradise
A fresh chapter has begun for the waterfront space next to Edgewater at Capri on Via Roma. What was previously Isla Cantina has been reimagined as Isla Dining & Bar, a laidback sibling with an easygoing, modern Australian menu that leans into elevated pub classics. Overseen by Michelin-seasoned chef Meyjitte Boughenout, Isla isn’t about white tablecloths or fancy fare, it’s the kind of spot made for casual catch-ups, long afternoons that roll into dinner, or a quick bite and a cold beer by the water. The menu covers all bases, from jalapeno poppers with cheddar and Nonna’s meatballs to a bug-and-prawn roll that’s basically made for sunny deck dining. Larger plates range from wild-caught barramundi and charred chicken to a wagyu burger or classic parmigiana. There’s a Thursday seafood special to keep things interesting, plus a grill section for those craving a quality cut of lamb or sirloin. With a relaxed sun-soaked deck, boutique wines and spritzes on pour, Isla is setting itself up as the approachable, easygoing neighbour – polished enough to impress, but casual enough to become your new go-to.
Pistachio Dessert Haus, Surfers Paradise
Surfers Paradise has just welcomed a sweet new arrival in Pistachio Dessert Haus – a pastel-hued haven dedicated to the humble tree nut that makes everything better. Here, pistachios aren’t just a garnish – they’re the star, woven through tiramisu, knafeh, baklava, a Dubai-style tart and plenty more. Every creation is handcrafted in-house by owner Hala Hamad, drawing on her background in baking intricate wedding cakes. Drop by for a coffee and tart, pick up a box of baklava to share, or simply marvel at the flowing chocolate-and-pistachio fountain – either way, this dessert bar is a dream come true for anyone with a sweet tooth.
Street Taco Bar & Taqueria, Paradise Point
Paradise Point has a new neighbourhood gem with the arrival of Street Taco Bar & Taqueria, the passion project of chef-owner Jorge Camargo. Drawing inspiration from the laid-back taquerias of California and Mexico, the menu is vibrant, flavour-packed and almost entirely gluten-free. Highlights include slow-cooked beef tacos piled high with onions and coriander, zesty Cali-style fish tacos topped with chipotle cream and quesadillas oozing with molten cheese. The margaritas are equally worthy of attention, served classic with fresh lime or given a fruity twist. With its colourful fit-out, casual energy and commitment to quality ingredients, Street Taco Bar is perfect for everything from midweek taco cravings to weekend margarita sessions by the water.
Cocoflufferia by Goji, Robina
If you thought soft serve was just a childhood indulgence, Cocoflufferia by Goji is here to change your mind. The self-serve dessert spot, from the team behind Goji Granola Bar, specialises in vegan, gluten-free soft serve made with coconut water and premium Italian ingredients. Flavours rotate often, with options like silky dulce de leche, tangy pink pitaya or matcha. Then, it’s a matter of choosing your own adventure as you load your bowl with a delicious array of toppings, from granola clusters and brownies to fresh fruit and drizzles of Nutella and Biscoff. For something extra indulgent, try the NYC-inspired banana pudding, which has already developed a cult following. Bright, fun and totally customisable, Cocoflufferia is a dessert playground for kids and grown-ups alike.
Enzo’s Cucina, Carrara
Carrara locals have just scored a serious win following the arrival of Enzo’s Cucina, the fourth Gold Coast outpost (and eighteenth nationwide) from chef and founder Enzo Marturano. Despite the incredible scale of his restaurant empire, Enzo still treats this venue like his first. In fact, you’ll often find him in the kitchen or greeting guests. The menu blends his southern Italian heritage with Aussie favourites, from creamy, bacon-rich carbonara and arancini bomba to crispy pork belly laced with house-made Calabrese chilli sauce. Add in theatrical touches like three-cheese wheel pasta nights, tableside pesto service and plans for pizza- and sourdough-making classes, and you’ve got a restaurant that’s as much about memorable experiences as it is about the food. Warm, rustic and welcoming, Enzo’s Cucina is already shaping up to be Carrara’s new local favourite.
