The waterfront dining options at Capri on Via Roma on Isle of Capri just got a serious glow-up, courtesy of French chef Meyjitte Boughenout. With a resume that includes two Michelin-starred kitchens in Europe and decades of experience helming fine-dining institutions across Australia, Meyjitte has taken the reins as head chef and turned his attention to the newly reimagined Isla Dining & Bar and the established favourite, Edgewater Dining. Here’s everything you need to know …
With its breezy waterfront outlook and steady stream of passing boats, Capri on Via Roma has long been a favourite for lazy lunches and relaxed dining. Now, thanks to acclaimed chef Meyjitte Boughenout, there’s even more reason to linger – whether you’re in the mood for something easy and affordable or a little more elevated.
Isla Dining & Bar has left its former identity as Isla Cantina behind, trading the Mexican menu for a fresh, modern Australian direction. Positioned somewhere between a pub and a bistro, it’s the kind of place you can drop into without fanfare and still walk away genuinely impressed.
“It’s about creating a relaxed space with consistently good food,” says Meyjitte. “You don’t need an excuse to enjoy life and eat well — especially not on the Gold Coast.”
The menu delivers broad appeal with an elevated take on pub favourites. Think jalapeno poppers with cheddar, Nonna’s meatballs, tuna ceviche, and a bug-and-prawn roll that feels tailor-made for the waterfront. Mains span from wild-caught barramundi and charred chicken to the classic chicken parmigiana and a juicy wagyu burger. A rotating seafood special each Thursday celebrates the region’s coastal bounty, while the grill section pays proper respect to premium cuts like lamb cutlets and grain-fed sirloin.
Next door, Edgewater Dining offers an altogether different experience. Already a favourite among locals, it has undergone a seasonal refresh under Meyjitte’s direction, where subtle technique changes and considered new additions give the menu a renewed sense of finesse — a quiet nod to his Michelin-starred past.
Highlights include Mooloolaba grilled prawns, wagyu beef tartare, lychee and chilli sorbet oysters, and a refined selection of sashimi and caviar. Signature dishes remain, including the king prawn and bug risotto and the oven-baked whole snapper, while the drinks list features boutique wines and inventive cocktails worthy of a long afternoon by the water.
Beyond the Isle of Capri, Meyjitte’s influence extends north to Sanctuary Cove Tavern, where he’s reimagined the humble pub menu with the same care and detail – a testament to the Mulpha Hospitality Group’s growing footprint in the Queensland dining scene.
