If you’ve spent any time in Southport chasing seriously good wings, chances are you already know Cycho’s Buffalo Wings. The local favourite has built a loyal following on bold flavours, international inspiration and delightfully crispy chicken. Now, owners Cyrus and Hanzel Platon are extending that same globe-trotting approach into the morning hours with a new breakfast offering shaped by years of travel and shared experiences in the air.
Founded by two former flight attendants, Cycho’s was born from a shared love of travel and the way food connects people to place. After years spent flying internationally, the duo began translating their favourite destinations into flavour, using chicken as their creative starting point. What began as a market stall at Miami Marketta more than a decade ago evolved into a food truck and, eventually, a bricks-and-mortar home in Southport. From the beginning, the menu has been shaped by wing flavours inspired by cities from Seoul to New York, Manila to Beijing, with each dish designed to feel like a small trip for your taste buds, no passport required.
That travel-driven mindset now carries through to the venue’s new breakfast offering, which centres on a compact but considered selection of globally inspired morning dishes. While there’s one hero Japanese-inspired sando anchoring the lineup, it’s joined by a handful of toasties and a burger that bring the same sense of place and personality to the plate. Standouts include the Tijuana birria toastie filled with slow-braised beef and melted cheese, the Paris truffle mushroom toastie layered with grilled mushrooms and a rich four-cheese blend, and the Bologna beef ragu toastie served with parmesan and consomme for dipping.
Although the menu has expanded, the signature wings that put Cycho’s on the culinary map aren’t going anywhere. Burgers, loaded fries and internationally inspired sauces still anchor the offering, with plenty of options for sharing and repeat visits. Regulars will also notice the venue’s playful ‘flavour passport’, which turns working your way through the wing list into a kind of unofficial challenge. But speaking of, there are plans in the works for a spicy wing roulette, where one in six is doused in Cycho’s signature hot sauce.
Now stretching comfortably from breakfast through to dinner, Cycho’s serves early toasties, midday burgers and late-afternoon wings with equal confidence. Whether you’re dropping in for a quick breakfast fix or settling in for wings and sides later on, this Southport staple is well worth revisiting.
