A piece of World War II history has hit the South East Queensland property market.

Sitting on the north slope of Mount Tarampa, the semi-underground reinforced concrete bunker is part of a 7.2 acre parcel of land, listed for sale through agent Kent Rohl.

“This is your chance to secure a piece of history,” Rohl said.

“80,000 American troops were stationed in Brisbane during World War II. This bunker was part of the defence of Australia and part of the Pacific campaign against Japan.”

The bunker, which measures 35 metres long and 7 metres – with 30cm-thick concrete walls – was originally built in 1941 for the Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS).

It was then used by two American fighter squadrons in early 1942, before becoming a RAAF Operational base for dive bombers.

But as the threat of Japanese attack diminished, so did the need for the site and it was later abandoned.

Now, it’s been listed as a potential Airbnb location.

“This would make a very attractive destination for short term accommodation,” Rohl said.

“Especially with the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail and Brisbane River Canoe Trail just up the road.”

According to Rohl, there were already “multiple” offers for the unique listed.

He expected offers above $1.4 million for the bunker, and a further $500,000 for the adjoining vacant block.

But anyone interested only has until close of business on Wednesday, February 4, to get an offer in.
