Malaysia Airlines’ A330neo service has touched down in Brisbane as the carrier expands its flight schedule, the new airbus flagged as being quieter and more fuel efficient.

As of Sunday, the airline increased from five to six flights a week to Kuala Lumpur – connecting Queenslanders with Malaysia and onward connections across Asia, India and Europe – with the new Airbus on the route.

Daily flights will depart as of October 25, the airport said.

“The introduction of the A330neo on Malaysia Airlines’ Brisbane–Kuala Lumpur services marks an important milestone … reflecting our confidence in the strength and potential of the Australasia market,” Malaysia Aviation Group’s airline business CEO Bryan Foong said.

“The A330neo enables us to deliver a more elevated customer experience while strengthening connectivity between Queensland, Malaysia and key markets across Asia and beyond. ”

Those wanting to catch a glimpse of the new aircraft can do so at the new plane spotting area at Brisbane Airport, Fellowship Place, the airport said.

“Brisbane Airport is building momentum as a global gateway,” Brisbane Airport general manager aviation Ryan Both said.

“As our city and state continue to grow, we’re seeing increasing demand for connections between Queensland and major destinations.

“The arrival of the new A330neo is a vote of confidence in Brisbane, delivering the latest product and a quieter, and more efficient flying experience.”

The new A330neo was described as giving passengers more cabin comfort and modern  features across economy and business seats, the airport said.

It is also more fuel efficient and quieter during take off and landing than its predecessors.

The announcement comes less than a year after Malaysia Airlines resumed its Brisbane service, which was paused in 2023.

Brisbane Airport is now connected to 35 international destinations, welcoming a record 25 million passengers in 2025.

The airport is currently investing $5 billion across the precinct over the next five years as part of the Future BNE transformation.
