From news of a speakeasy-style jazz bar in The Valley to Brooki Bakehouse’s new South Brisbane flagship, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …
The Ruby Jazz Club
A new Art Deco-inspired jazz bar is taking shape in Fortitude Valley, with The Ruby Jazz Club set to open its doors on Thursday April 23. Hidden behind a nondescript red door at the far end of Mead Lane, this secretive speakeasy-style haunt will be the place to go for energetic live performances, classic cocktails and electric atmosphere. The brainchild of Brisbane jazz pianist Meredith Brothers, The Ruby will take inspirational cues from the jazz bars of 1920s New York City, offering two distinct experiences on Friday and Saturday nights. Fridays will host ticketed shows in a concert-style setting, showcasing local, interstate and touring international jazz artists. On Saturday nights, the doors will open for free-entry gigs showcasing the talents of local jazz duos and trios. Attendees will be able to sip on Prohibition-era cocktails, international wines and an impressive bourbon collection, while a selection of snacks will also be available to enjoy between sets. Tickets to The Ruby’s opening-weekend celebrations have already sold out (sorry folks!), with acclaimed Australian jazz artist Vince Jones set to perform. Rest assured we’ll be taking a gander inside The Ruby Jazz Bar when it opens next month.

Brooki Bakehouse
In exciting news for fans of Brooki Bakehouse, the team behind the Brisbane-born viral foodie sensation has just revealed that it will be opening a brand-new flagship location in the heart of Fish Lane this May. As the first of ten new Brooki stores set to open across the Australia throughout 2026, the Fish Lane site is set to be the brand’s largest and most ambitious to date. At the heart of the store will be a state-of-the-art purpose-built production kitchen, fully visible to patrons eager to catch a glimpse of the confection-crafting action as they queue. Brooki Fish Lane will also offer in-store dining, so those wanting to enjoy their cookies, cupcakes and coffees can snag a seat and devour them then and there.

Never Enough
After helping revive Fortitude Valley’s music scene with the launch of Crowbar Brisbane in 2024, Trad Nathan, Tyla Dombroski and The Long Lunch Group are turning their focus to dining with Never Enough, a two-level restaurant and bar opening later this week. Inspired by the duo’s love of food, drinks, music, art and community, Never Enough is envisioned as a place people can return to repeatedly, whether for long lunches or late-night drinks. Located in heritage-listed Apothecaries Hall on Ann Street, the split-level space will feature a main dining room and kitchen downstairs, with a relaxed bar and private dining area upstairs. Leading the kitchen is executive chef Trent Lymn, whose seasonal, produce-driven menu will highlight dry-ageing and small plates, while general manager Mikey Pattison oversees a drinks program centred on wine, fortifieds, aperitifs, amaros and premium spirits. Blending its food-forward approach with Brisbane’s creative culture through music, art and events, Never Enough aims to deliver a holistic hospitality experience when it opens to the public on Saturday March 28. Stay tuned for an up-close look at Never Enough very soon.

Eclair at the Bay
After months of giddy anticipation, the team behind Eclair at the Bay has just announced that its brand-new Newstead patisserie will be celebrating its soft opening this coming weekend, with the Commercial Road shopfront opening its doors from March 27–29. Those stopping by over the weekend can expect a range of French-inspired treats made using high-quality ingredients, including eclairs, craquelins, tarts, cakes and more. Can’t make it this weekend? Check in soon for the full rundown.

Barry Parade Public House
It’s been a tough few weeks for Brisbane’s bar scene, with a number of cherished venues announcing closures. Following the news that Bar Hugo and Can You Keep A Secret? have or will soon close, the team behind Fortitude Valley boozer Barry Parade Public House has revealed it too will shut its doors. In a statement released via its social media pages, the Barry Parade team revealed that the bar would officially close after its last day of service on Sunday March 29. The bar, founded by Daniel Gregory, Brennen Eaton and Lachlan Henry in October 2024, earned early praise for its creative cocktail offering, selection of rare and vintage spirits, and tidy list of Australian wine and craft beers. Located on the fringe of Fortitude Valley, Barry Parade looked to offer locals a quieter spot to enjoy a considered form of hospitality. Fans are encouraged to pop in this week to send the bar off in style.
