From news of a rooftop sports bar arriving on Caxton Street and an exclusive wagyu dining room in The City, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

The Milton Rooftop & Sports Bar
Coming soon to Caxton Street, The Milton Rooftop & Sports Bar is set to redefine Brisbane’s iconic sporting strip – a bold multifaceted venue where sport, mateship and community collide. Backed by Queensland sporting legends – including Maroons captain Cameron Munster and Brisbane Lions ace Josh Dunkley – The Milton aims to cater to everything from pre-game hype-ups to post-match celebrations, offering elevated pub classics, flowing drinks and an electric atmosphere that hits like a golden point victory. At the sports bar, TV screens will play all the biggest games, meanwhile a rooftop terrace will give guests the chance to soak up afternoon sunshine and ice-cold cocktails as a roster of top DJs keep vibes high well into the evening. Downstairs, the Locker Room will offer a new after-dark playground for live events, private functions and late-night sessions. From sports bar to rooftop to underground, this is where Brisbane will come to play. The Milton Rooftop & Sports Bar is slated to open on Tuesday May 12, just in time for Magic Round. The King River Room at Moo Moo The Wine Bar + Grill
High-end steak restaurant Moo Moo The Wine Bar + Grill is raising the bar with the opening of The King River Room today, Tuesday May 5. The new space marks a milestone in the partnership between fifth-generation Queensland wagyu producer King River and Brisbane City institution Moo Moo. Designed as a permanent home to showcase the King River story, the room offers an immersive experience for diners, chefs and global partners, reinforcing Queensland’s reputation as a leader in premium wagyu production. The venue – designed by Studio Collective – embodies understated sophistication, with low-lit interiors, arching windows, mahogany finishes, an eighteen-seat dining table and an extended lounge for lingering. Moo Moo executive chef Trent Robson says the four-year partnership will “allow [the team] to take guests on a journey from the Queensland paddocks where the cattle are raised through to a dining experience that celebrates precision and flavour”. Distributor visits, exclusive tastings (including a candied wagyu bacon cigar dessert), global chef delegations and curated dining experiences – such as a signature banquet – are among the offerings to come. The King River Room is now open for bookings.

Oli’s Banh Mi will be opening on Honour Avenue in Graceville this July | Credit: image supplied

Oli’s Banh Mi
In great news for Graceville locals, a community-driven grab-and-go cafe will soon be slinging high-quality Vietnamese favourites to Honour Avenue. The brainchild of Stephanie Tran, Oli’s Banh Mi is a deeply personal concept that reflects Steph’s long-held dream of opening a venue that feels meaningful for her family and the wider community. Named after her son Oli, the venue will give Graceville residents an inviting haunt that blends a modern, soft and calming aesthetic with green tones, curved architectural features, and plenty of greenery. The menu will centre on fresh, high-quality Vietnamese favourites including banh mì, vermicelli bowls, rice paper rolls, and sides like wings, nem nuong pork skewers and fries, alongside a strong line-up of specialty cold drinks such as iced matcha, strawberry matcha, hojicha and traditional Vietnamese coffee like ca phe sua da and a salted-cream variation. While primarily focused on quick, grab-and-go service, there will be a small seating area, with plans to expand both the menu and space over time. Oli’s Banh Mi will be opening in early July – stay tuned for more.

Cartel Del Taco to host world-class bartender for a one-night-only takeover
This Friday night, Mexican street taqueria and bar Cartel Del Taco will throw an exclusive cocktail night with a menu crafted by globally recognised bartender Eduardo Conde. In collaboration with 1800 Tequila, Eduardo will be serving up a one-off cocktail menu available only at Cartel Del Taco New Farm on Friday May 8. The event will also feature DJ sets inspired by the sounds of Mexico City and Australia’s first Picaña “Trompo” Tacos as a special menu feature. Bookings are recommended and can be made here.
