It’s no secret that Stanthorpe is one of Queensland’s most adored regions for quality culinary escapes and immersive wine country experiences. Meteora Estate is the latest arrival on the scene, offering a vineyard dining experience shaped by architecture, landscape and Mediterranean influence.
Two things always go hand in hand: long lunches and great wine. And fantastic news – your next excuse to linger over both just arrived in Ballandean. Officially opening its doors on July 2, Meteora Estate is the Granite Belt’s newest addition – and your next excuse for a road trip.
Overlooking the vineyard is a restaurant led by executive chef Simon Treller, where the menu is guided by seasonality, high-quality local produce and his years of international experience. With a history of working within luxury lodges, private yachts and acclaimed hatted restaurants, Simon now turns his hand to creating something special from the ground up.
Meteora Estate was created by Andrew and Karen Catsoulis, with designs to elevate how people experience Queensland’s wine country. The name draws inspiration from the Meteora region, where monasteries are built into breathtaking hilltop locations. Literally translated, meteoros translates to ‘suspended in the air’, which is a feeling the vineyard evokes with its expansive views.
Not to be outdone is the wine program, led by chief winemaker Andy Williams, who will showcase regional classics alongside varietals such as fiano, montepulciano, vermentino and aglianico.
The cellar door is led by Italian-born Massimo Pirone, who comes from a long line of winemakers. The wine tasting experiences at Meteora will guide guests along a journey of exploration, discovering the character of the Granite Belt, with thoughtfully crafted wines and a spectacular setting that makes savouring the moment all the more sweet.
And yet, there’s more to come. Set to launch in October, luxurious accommodation will soon complete the picture at Meteora Estate, making it the ultimate immersive food and wine escape. Stay tuned for more details.
