When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Kobe Steakland
Next month, a brand-new European-inspired steakhouse will deliver a premium meat and seafood experience just metres from James Street. Kobe Steakland is currently taking shape on McLachlan Street, with the team behind the 80-seat venue looking to lure in carnivores with its focus on high-grade Japanese beef. The menu will be centred on a steak selection featuring cuts of A5 Kobe wagyu, complemented by a raw bar dispensing oysters and sashimi, platters featuring lobster, crab and mussels, plus tapas-style bites. Kobe Steakland’s beverage program will be led by a broad selection of spirits, with a globe-spanning range of whiskies making up the bulk of the selection. These tipples will also filter into a cocktail list, with Kobe Steakland envisioned as a go-to spot for late-night drinks. On the design front, guests can expect a sophisticated aesthetic – including onyx marble imported from Italy. Kobe Steakland is currently targeting a November opening date – we’ll have more information for you over the coming weeks.

The team has announced that the Italian-inspired venue will officially open to the public this week, with doors opening at 12:00 pm on Thursday October 22. Green Beacon Brewing Co.
Sad news on the brews front this month, with word that iconic Teneriffe beer maker Green Beacon Brewing Co. will close its Helen Street venue at the end of the month. Speculation about the brewery’s future has been ongoing since the announcement that Frank Developments would be transforming the 1275-sqm site into eight-storey apartment complex, Elena. A representative from Green Beacon and owner Asahi Beverages confirmed the closure in a statement, saying “We informed staff several weeks ago of the difficult decision to close the Green Beacon site at Teneriffe at the end of the month. We are enormously grateful to our team members who have made the site what it was for more than a decade. Queries about the site’s future should be directed to the site developer. We will have an update on the brand in due course.” Green Beacon was an instrumental force in the early days of Brisbane’s craft-beer boom, joining the likes of Newstead Brewing Co. as part of the first wave of independent beer makers.

Pastarama
Distillery Road Market will welcome a new resident before month’s end, with Pastarama making itself at home at the sprawling food and entertainment precinct on Friday October 30. Taking an uncomplicated approach to Italian dining, Pastarama will offer a menu built around the dishes people return to time and again. As the name implies, pasta is the main event and here, it’s served fresh and made to order, alongside pizza, lasagne and zesty salads. For dessert, there are just two options, and they’re classics for good reason – panna cotta and tiramisu. Diners will also be able to watch some of the preparation unfold, including the flaming cheese wheel, which promises to bring a little spectacle to proceedings.

Dimmi
Racecourse Road is set to be the site of some exciting culinary activity over the next few months. Joining the storied strip this November will be Dimmi – a new Italian-inspired restaurant where conversation and connection will be fuelled by charcoal-grilled cuisine, handmade pasta and a curated cocktail selection. Taking shape at the base of The Windermere, Dimmi is the brainchild of business partners Will Cooke and Kamile Vingeviciute, who will be working with head chef Niccolo Sordi to showcase top-notch Australian produce through a creative lens grounded in Italian culinary traditions. The offering will include belly-warming fried lasagne bites, raviolo with braised beef and celeriac, cotoletta alla bolognese and mains kissed by fire from the charcoal grill. There’ll also be riffs on classic Italian cocktails and plenty of wine. Spearheading Dimmi’s mid-century Italian-inspired aesthetic is Alkot Studio, with construction handled by Beyond Projects in conjunction with Callum McGregor. Read all about Dimmi here.
